In commemoration of 65th anniversary of Indonesian Independence and to celebrate the 20th anniversary of sister city Jakarta-Los Angeles, The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia and the Indonesian Community in Los Angeles held the Indonesian Festival 2010 on Saturday, July 31st 2010.
The whole day event that comprises three main activities, namely cultural performance, food bazaar and companies (products and services) expo started at 10.00 am to 10.00 pm at 3457 Wilshire Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90010.
More than 20 groups of Indonesian traditional dancers, including 5 excellent groups coming all the way from Jakarta perform at this event. The festival also present unique musical instruments from Indonesia such as Javanese and Balinese Gamelan, Degung Sunda, Kolintang and Angklung.
Some talented local as well as Indonesian singers perform accompanied by modern bands, including Indonesian style of bands such as keroncong and dangdut. The festival is also very proud to present performances from Southeast Asian Countries residing in Los Angeles, i.e. from Malaysia, The Philippines, and Thailand.
Apart from the above rich-cultural features, the festival present various business and tourism opportunities from the expo of both Indonesian services and goods. A fashion show of well-known batik brand will also take part in this event.
In the meantime, the display of keris (traditional Indonesian sword) and contemporary batik certainly enrich the event from the perspective of cultural heritage. Furthermore, several good Indonesian restaurants display their authentic cuisine so that the attendees not only be able to indulge their eyes and business instinct but also are able to taste amazingly various cuisines of the country.
With the support of the City of Los Angeles and the City of Jakarta, it is expected that the festival, which in short is a fabulous showcase of various cultural performance, bazaar, cuisine and expo succesfully attracted more than 10.000 attendees from different background of nationalities.
