No: 054/PR/VI/2012/53

Policy Analysis and Development Agency (BPPK) c.q Center for Assessment and Policy Development in International Organization (Pusat P2K-OI) will organize Forum of Foreign Policy Studies (FKKLN) with the theme of ”Foreign Policy and Global Health: Global Health Issues, Opportunities and Challenge for Multilateral Diplomacy” at Best Western Premier Hotel, Surakarta, on 21 June 2012.

This forum constitutes one of the studies forums organized by BPPK of Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss global health issues which have become world’s serious concern, to identify national interest and to discuss the efforts that can be done in developing multilateral diplomacy in the field of global health by involving a number of stakeholders.

Global health is a new issue in diplomacy which has not yet comprehended widely by the policy makers and stakeholders in the fields of health and foreign relations, as well as academicians in Indonesia. This is due to the fact that the effort to synchronize foreign policy and global health issues has just widely discussed in 2006 through the launching of Foreign Policy and Global Health initiative and Oslo Declaration proclaimed in 2007.

The more significant the discussion of health issues in various international forums creates a need for a country to have good global health diplomacy. Global health diplomacy is defined as a negotiation process in forming and managing global health policy. This process does not only involve officials from health ministries, but also other parties such as the foreign ministries, civilians, and businesspeople.

Considering the fact that global health issue is a recent and innovative issue, a capacity improvement for the stakeholders is necessary in order for them to be able to increase their contribution in various multilateral forums. The FKKLN forum is expected to produce a more comprehensive plan for establishing an ideal national mechanism to deal with global health issues.

The forum will present 5 speakers, namely Ambassador Makarim Wibisono, former Ambassador and Permanent Mission of Indonesia to the UN in New York and Geneva, dr. Widjaja Lukito Ph.D., Secretary of Presidential Advisory Council for People’s Welfare, Ganjar Widhiyoga, SIP Msi. from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences Universitas Slamet Riyadi, dr.
