As one of ASEAN dissemenation program, 150 teachers as Surakarta enthusiastically followed "Seminar on the Dissemenation of ASEAN Development for High School Teachers of Surakarta" held at Hotel Novotel Surakarta (05/25).
The seminar is a collaboration between the Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation with Department of Education, Youth and Sports of Surakarta, which aims to increase ASEAN awareness among the people of Indonesia in welcoming the ASEAN Community 2015.
In his opening remarks, the Head of Teachers and Education Personnel Division, Drs. Sulardi, M Ed, representing the Head of Department of Education, Youth and Sports of Surakarta, said that measures to promote the development of ASEAN to the teachers is considered to be the most effective.
"Teachers have an important role in disseminating ASEAN and to comprehensively educate students and the community", said Sulardi.
To the teacher, he said, he expected that the knowledge pf ASEAN to be passed on to the students in Surakarta, and that they can make the most of the dissemination program.
The teachers were active in the discussions and they also put forward their expectations, among others, their hope for teacher exchange with other ASEAN countries, especially teachers in the field of social sciences.
The atmosphere of the event, particularly during the presentation by Functional Officer of Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation and the Head of Sub-Division of Regional and Multilateral Bureau of Planning and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Culture, grew merrier because the teachers were wearing traditional costumes, uniforms they wear every Friday.
The enthusiasm was not only evident among the teachers, but also among the 100 students of high schools/vocational schools of Surakarta who participated in the ASEAN Goes to School, which will take place on the next day (26/05) in SMAN 4 Surakarta.
The students appeared to be eager during the presentation by the staff of the Directorate of ASEAN Functional Cooperation.
In a question and answer session, the students were active answering every question asked. They acknowledged that the information obtained through these activities add to their knowledge of ASEAN they had earned in school.
