Two Indonesian marching band teams, Harmony Menteng 02 (for junior category) and Locomotive PT KAI (for senior category) joined International Youth Marching Band Competition on July 1 and 2, 2012.Countries participating in the competition were Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, China and the host, Hong Kong. Each country sent 2 or 3 teams, while Hong Kong had tens of teams. It was the second time Indonesia sent representatives in the international marching band competition in Hong Kong. Moreover, it was actually the first time Indonesia sent a team for the junior category.According to a talk in Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong with the teams, sponsorship was the main obstacle. It was hoped that there could be more support from Indonesia to help participations in international events. Both teams competed with high spirit even when their opponents had better skills with the instruments. The results were good. Locomotive PT KAI team won the second place for the senior category after a hard fight in battle of the band for two best performing teams.Harmony Menteng 02 Team had the third place for junior category along with Favorite Tea predicate for their amazing performance, themed The Beauty of East Indonesia. The result could only be achieved with the support of Indonesians who came to Tsuen Wan West playground. The supporters were Indonesian Migrant Workers (TKI) who worked around the venue. Both teams were impressed with the support.A day after the closing of the competition, Locomotive PT KAI team had a courtesy visit to the Indonesian Acting Consul General in Hong Kong and addressed their appreciation for the support given by Indonesian Consulate General and also by Indonesians in Hong Kong during the competition.
