On the night of the award submission of Rally Aicha des Gazelles on March 31, 2012 in the city of Essaouira, Morocco, four Indonesian female athletes, namely Fitri Maryanti, Tri Setyawati, Berdareta Darina and Asti Ayuningtyas, which are also employees of the Total E & P Indonesia, appear to the stage to receive the award from the organizers of Rally Aicha des Gazelles. Also present at the awarding night is the Indonesian ambassador to Morocco Tosari Widjaja and the President Director of Total E & P Indonesie, Mrs. Elisabeth Proust.
The four female athletes of Indonesia which are divided into two teams, namely Team Gaia and Team Cenderawasih, have represented Indonesia at the Rally Aicha des Gazelles event (Automotive Rally for Women) which was held in Morocco Desert on December 17 to 30 March 2012. Rally was attended by about 300 women from 21 countries.
Used vehicles are ranging from SUV, MPV, jeeps to motorcycles. Speed is not the elements to determine the winner, but the kilometer, that is, the fewer kilometers traveled by the participants, the better the value obtained and is entitled to the winner.
The challenge is the participants are not allowed to use the GPS and only provided by a conventional compass and a map scale 1:100,000. In one day trip participants spent an average of 10-13 hours. Satellite support is used to track the whereabouts of the participants who experienced an emergency situation.
Indonesia's participation is the first time since the organization of this rally in 1990. The participation of the teams from Indonesia itself is sponsored by Total E & P Indonesie. Indonesian ambassador to Morocco Tosari Widjaja in an interview with Media Team of the Organizing Committee has expressed the importance of the participation of Indonesia in this international event in bringing the name of the Indonesian nation.
